Drypoint is an intaglio printing technique, incisions or fine lines are made with a very sharp tool on a printing plate. Ink is applied and then wiped off and the incisions (burrs) create the image. The ink is wiped with a tarlatan (starched cheesecloth) and soft paper. Cotton buds and soft fabric, are used to enhance white areas of the plate, and to remove the remaining ink. The paper and plate are run through a printing press. Damp paper is used, drawing the ink out of the burred lines.
